Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about PatentBase
What databases does PatentBase search?
PatentBase currently searches USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) patents, including utility and design patents. EPO (European Patent Office) and other jurisdictions are planned for a future release.
What AI models are available?
Free users have access to GPT-4o mini for query generation. Pro users can choose from premium models including GPT 5.2, Gemini Pro 3.0, and Claude Sonnet 4. You can select your preferred model from the model dropdown on the search page.
How does the AI query generation work?
Describe your invention or prior art search in plain English, or use exact claim language. Our AI analyzes your description and generates an optimized USPTO Boolean query using appropriate syntax and operators like AND, OR, proximity operators, and field specifiers.
Can I enter my own Boolean queries?
Yes! Enable "Bypass LLM" mode to enter USPTO Boolean queries directly. This skips AI query generation and searches with your exact query. You can also edit AI-generated queries before searching.
What is Agentic AI mode?
Agentic AI mode is an automated end-to-end search workflow available for Pro users. It orchestrates AI query generation, semantic re-ranking, and claim analysis to deliver the top most relevant patent results for your search—all with a single click.
What is Semantic Re-ranking?
Semantic re-ranking uses AI to re-order search results by conceptual similarity to your invention description, rather than just keyword matching. Free users can rerank up to 25 results. Pro users can rerank up to 500 results.
What is Patent Analysis?
Patent Analysis uses AI to analyze selected patents against your invention description. It identifies relevant claims, explains how each patent relates to your invention, and highlights potential conflicts or novelty indicators. This is a Pro feature.
Is my data secure?
Yes. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit and at rest. Your queries and search history are private and never shared with third parties. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Can I save my searches?
Yes. You can save searches to your account for future reference. Saved searches preserve the query, results, and any AI analysis. You can re-execute saved searches to find new patents published since the original search.
Can I export my search results?
Yes! You can export search results to CSV format. Exports include patent metadata such as title, publication number, dates, applicants, inventors, and abstract.
